Applications : Blue Laser
A laser is a very “fancy” light source. The astute lay observer will note that they are generally of “one” color, and can be spatially narrow (imagine light saber in Star Wars). More practically, blue lasers (of the semiconductor variety) are tough to make, but a few people have cracked the code. They’re in great demand because they can enable very high density data storage. Imagine thousands of CDs in compacted into one DVD! The recent “Blu-Ray DVD” standard demands blue lasers, and that is precisely what GaN-on-Diamond can enable. There are also bio-medical applications of blue lasers as they can be used for particular surgical procedures not easily performed by other colors.
